F Axle U-Joint?

Do you have to do anything special to get the drivers side axle out? I had a shop try and they couldn't get it out. Any ideas?

The problem with most is they can't get the hub bearing off. I have another post about this because my dealer just destroyed on of my hub bearings getting it off to change my "warranty covered" u-joints. Then they tried to get me to pay for the new hub. Didn't work like that. I now have the truck back with new joints, new ball joints, and 1 new hub. It is amazing how much less vibration the truck has now.
I will do my own next time. There are many good tips on here about how to get that dang hub off. You need to remove the wheel, the caliper, the caliper mounting pad, remove the axle nut, and then the actual hub. The axle will come right out.

My u-joints were rsuted beyon belief. 52,000 miles and there wasn't more than 10-12 roller bearings left total.

good luck

I just did my drivers side yesterday. The axle should just pop out. I had to pull mine twice, got a bit ahead of myself, the first time I pulled it out by hand, the second time I had to pry it out with a bar, just to get it moving, then it came eazy. The hubs, on the other hand, whoa, what a pain!!!

I tired to replace my driver's side this last weekend. After umteen hours trying to get the front hub off I finally put it back together. I did a search just today and found this link that has a good explanation and pictures. I have a mechanic friend that Sould have one of these pullers to assist. We'll find out this week end.

I've done ball and u joints every 20-25000 miles. On my 5th set now at 120000. Use the puller or risk buying a new hub.
2003 250QC stock but I plow alot with it.

Thank god MOOG and SPICER are available now!!!

Anyone have any idea where you can get one of the pullers shown in the link? I have the 3/4 ratchet set but the puller would have come in very handy last Saturday while trying to remove my hubs. I gave up.

Thanks...
