Yea, just get a muffler delete pipe for $50 and your done. Sounds great at idle and when you get on it too, but not really any louder in the cab on the interstate. I used 2 4" band clamps from NAPA to secure the muffler delete pipe so it would be sealed up good. I would also reccommand adding an extra pipe hanger. I used my old 4' muffler clamp and welded 2 pieces of 3/8 round stock on each side and custome bent them to fit the rubber hangers. Believe me if you use band clamps and don't secure the muffler delete pipe it can work loose

Silverline that I have is quiet on the interstate...pretty much as quiet as stock...it's when you get in it that it's a bit throaty...but nothing bone jarring...i was just looking for cooler EGTs and quicker cool down times when I purchased my exhaust with a decent sound that is tolerable on the highway...got what I paid for

By just taking the muffler out does that hurt the turbo or anything?

It won't hurt anything, only help by allowing easier flow and keep things cooler. I have a MBRP 4" dual cat back setup on my truck that I am happy with. Everyone on here is going to give you different opinions but it really depends on what you want and what mods you plan on running.

I replaced the stock muffler with an MBRP muffler. In the cab it's hardly any louder than stock. I remember the fiance saying "I don't notice a difference". Outside the truck it sounds pretty good and is a deeper tone but not as much noise as I would like. I also installed a 5" x 12" exhaust tip and it just sticks out past the bed so that may help quiet it down some. The muffler and tip came to $150, which if I would do it again I would find a 4" piece of pipe and have it installed in place of the stock muffler for less money. Good luck with what ever you choose. Lots of options out there.

Geno's Garage has a muffler delete pipe for our '06s. I haven't gotten mine yet, but I'm planning on getting it this spring or summer.

Here is a link to RPM Outlet, they have the same pipe but without the muffler clamp pipe hanger for $50.

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dieselx.htm

Also do a search on Muffler Delete and you will find lots of info and views on the muffler delete pipe as well as other opinions on other mufflers

Most of what I have read and researched on this site is that the aftermarket mufflers are either the same as the stock or too loud and they cost alot. Many guys have gone the path of the muffler delete and love it. Its cheap and a happy meduim between stock and too loud.

Here is one for example

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...muffler+delete

Taking your muffler off is an other story, if you want to keep your muffler around for later use and for ease of getting the muffler off, you should make several cuts on the muffler pipe after you take off the muffler clamp like with an angle grinder with a cut off wheel, then pry open the pipe a little and slide it off. You need to do this because the factory muffler clamps put a crease in the pipe which make it so you can't just pull the muffler staright off.

Have fun...

I've also read on here where people have taken a torch to heat the pipe and wiggle it off. You'll need to get it red hot to do so, but I think that would be the best way to get it off.

You already have 4" stainless, why would you want to chop it off?
I just bought a 40" Nelson for $67 Cdn, will be going on this week.

I cut out the cat and replaced the stock muff with a 30'' long 4'' diameter Magnaflow muffler. I like the way it sounds....not to loud, but much deeper tone than stock, imo. But it will wake up some if you get on it.

Here is a link to a recent dyno run with my truck. Right before I hammered down on it, I was cruising about 70 or so on the dyno.....and then went WOT to about 120mph. Maybe it will give you an idea of the sound.
