How do I tell which engine is in my Dodge?? It is an 04 HO CTD 5.9L model ISB 305 engine # 57078178 one other # on the engine is 3CEXHO359BAE any idea?? thanks
If you bought it new, check your window sticker. Mine was a bit confusing. It says Cummins HO engine at the top but then way down at the bottom of the last column, there's a small line that says Cummins 600. Also confusing is that the window sticker didn't say 2004.5...just 2004. There's probably a way to tell by looking at the engine but I'm not sure.

The 305 engine is the 555 torque engine. The 600 (torque) has 325hp. I think 305 was the only choice in 04 - don't think they offered an SO version.
I think the SO came in 2004.5 s. I remember talking to someone and they said it was a good thing for mr to have gotten the CTD I did because you can do HP mods W/O EPA restrictions. I also thought the SO came out a a one engine for every state type deal, no longer a special CA emmissions engine?? not for sure though
Thanks for the info

OK here is the FAT and Skinny. The 03 & 04 had 3 models to chose from. The 235hp (SO Cali CTD); 250hp SO CTD; & the 305hp HO CTD; The 04.5 & 05 killed all other models and introduced the 325hp/600ftlb HO CTD
I hope this helps.
By the way the 235hp and the 325 are the ones that are 50 state legal.
