Noticed engine temp will climb to 220 when it warms up then the fan kicks on and the temp drops to normal and doesn,t climb again. I never seen this high of temp before. Also smell coolant and am adding to resevoir occasional, but cant find a leak,no puddles. Any ideas? Recently replaced radiator & thermostat a couple of months ago due to cracked radiator.

 

What year?

Some had a short rubber hose coupling with 2 worm-gear clamps just below the turbo that are prone to weeping/leaking.

 

Your thermostat may be sticking or not opening correctly.
