dumb question
usually not. I think the glo plugs only come on when you are about to start it. once the engine is running you shouldn't need them again unless it is really cold out. thankfully our cummins has neither
Our trucks do not have timing chains, but have gears that mesh for timing. I believe that timing is also controlled by the ECM through the injectors.
We do not have glow plugs, either. In the CR engine, we use a grid heater that is at the bottom of the intake horn to heat the intake air. It is controlled by the ECM also, and uses temperature to determine when it comes on.
Not a dumb question. I had to look up the timing one. Are you having a problem?
