Dumb question

I should know this but I cannot think tonight, I was asked this a while ago and went blank, so here it goes. tires, max weight, if they are not marked max dual, and they are on a dually, how much lower than one? also, is that per tire, or max for the four of them? tires are rated at 2580lbs max load, so is that multiplied by four, or by two?

I am probably wrong on this, but I believe my load E range tires are about 3500lbs single and 2700lbs each on dual. I could be way off on these numbers, It's 1:30am otherwise I would have run out and checked. Maybe someone else can check these it the morning and get back. If these numbers are true, then the dual rating is 75% less than the signle.

And yes, the reduced rating is per tire. So you take the reduced rating and multiply by two for duals, with my numbers you could run two together at 5400lbs per side, ie 10,800 per axel, assuming your axel and suspension are up to that. With singles it would be 7000 per axel.

I believe the reason the rating is reduced is to allow more room for a temporary extreme loading condition on one tire, like if the other blew out, you ran over a rock or a rut in the road such that one tire would get the full load of both wheels. Also, two tires side by side to not shed heat as well, this maybe another factor.
