DTC P2509 Powerdown Data Lost Error

Can anyone tell me what this means? About every 10th time I start my truck it tries & won't start on 1st crank but will on second crank but it runs perfect. Does this have anything to do w/it? TIA

If I check codes using the key method this code will turn up. If I check codes using a scanner it will not trip a 2509. I believe it's a quirk caused buy cycling the ignition switch. AND they don't always fire on the first turn....

That's not the case for me. When you try to start it the truck acts like the battery is dead, doesn't crank at all. Then try again and wa la it starts

Check all the cable connections between the batteries. And Definately check the battery terminals. Power Down Data Loss, means that the PCM lost power while the truck was running. There are several other issues that people have with bad connections or splices in the battery cables......blowing up the passenger side battery is one of them! The pcm reads battery voltage from the drivers side battery, but the alt charges the pass side directly. charging the drivers side from the connector cables. When a badd connection occurs, the alt tries to charge the pass side battery enough to get the drivers side up....it can't because of the bad connection! Thus, overcharging and exploding the pass battery. FYI

If the Batts are good all the terminals are clean and adding new ground cables to the block,body and batt's there is a flash to deal with this

I haven't found a fix for mine yet, although I'm pretty sure at least one of the batteries is bad or close to it. Mine only seems to do it in really cold temps and when the grid heater has to cycle. The dealer claims that they tested the batteries even though none of my radio presets were gone, so I am going to try and get it back in this week and make sure they do it right.

DodgeCTD did you find a fix for this? Mine is still having problems with it. Only happens in cold weather. Which to me shows that it is lack of voltage or at least voltage related, but the dealer is giving me the runaround.

Be careful and get their word they will stand behind the reflash. They killed mine a few days ago and won't stand behind it because it had a Banks tune in it we think but don't know for sure. only had them flash it because I didn't want a banks in it. just bought the truck and was told it had one. I found a computer online for 1/4 the dealer cost.Told them to push it out to the lot and I'l take it from there!

well talked to bob wagner about my issues and see if they could send me a recovery file for the ecm on my smarty. He told me to reset the computer by unhooking positives and turn key on and rehook. Did that and it worked, truck started just fine. Put original batteries back in and tried again to be certain and started just fine. Did few other things while had it in shop and went to back out and now back to same thing. Hoping someone will have some ideas. Bob thought maybe its the tipm going out but talked him into sending me a recovery file so hope that helps but im not sure at this point.

Poor connections at the batteries
low battery voltage
open fused b+ to ecm
open ground circuit
battery + shorted to other circuits
return circuit shorted
battery + shorted to ground
intermittent condition
