duallys down here in Fla area dime a dozen,nobody wants em.srw 3500s are not something you see everyday plus selling and finding the truck you want takes a lot more money time and energy than say what I did which took all of 2 days to accomplish.
plus the point of this thread is not to bring the opinion police out of the wood work it was to simply post pics that were hard for me to find when I was thinking of doing it,helpful info is what its called ,its what helps forums have the answers people need not how many different opinions we can have.

 

I just did a SRW to DRW conversion. So they do notch out the fenders just as I suspected!

Nice job! Don't listen to the negative comments! Only the crazy ones that do these conversions truly understand why they are done!

 

yeah its funny,I have Jeeps and pulling the old 6 cylinder out and throwing an LT1 or swapping in a dana 60 and throwing some full hydro is no biggie for me so Unbolting a bed an swapping some tires is a skip in the park.

I have a Dually and they are a PAIN to drive on NARROW country roads Especially in the winter with snow piled up...I would LOVE to have a 3500 SRW and now that I see how easy it is ''THANKS FOR THE PICS !!

How much did the entire conversion set you back , incl. paint....?

 

$1700 for tires/rims/bed/paint and labor on painting and clear coating the bed

How do you like driving it now , compared to before the conversion?

 

feels a lot more compact,I am not taking up the whole lane anymore,it seems better spirited when cornering and taking off

 

For those of you that have done the opposite and went from a SRW to a DRW (NJtackle), do you have to get the wider axle for the conversion or would the SRW axle work. That is the biggest thing holding me back right now. If I can keep my axle I'd do it in a heartbeat. I am confused why it is slightly wider for the DRW.

Would have to agree that their a pain! BUT sure do tow a lot different then a SRW for the better.Plus they look impressive.I need a tag that says 'I CAUGHT YOU LOOKING" cause every Ford/Duramax dually I encounter I catch drivers and sometimes passengers looking.Our duallys look like big Tonka Toys. I've have had several comments over the years from Ford and Duramax owners saying "Oh you got one of these"

 

I drive country back roads all the time with my dually. No biggy. But you put my 8ft wide trailer behind it that is when it gets fun. Once you get used to it, nothing but a thang... Hope you enjoy your conversion.

 

back country roads are fine... parking lots are not...

buying tires is a kick in the teeth too! I just spent $700 on two tires... I'd rather buy 4 than 6!
