Driveline shudder....GONE!
Re:Driveline shudder....GONE!
Matt400, if you lowered the rear of your truck 1.25" then you should have already made a correction in the drive train when you did this unless you only lowered the bed and not the suspinsion ??? ???
I was just curious how you lowered yours ???

They installed a half inch shim lowering my carrier. It feels like a new truck.
[/quote]Interesting...is that shim tapered to "tip" the axle up or down?

Mark, I can snap a pic. How do I post it?
This is definitely an easy fix. It boggles the mind that Dodge is taking so long to act on it. One of their engineers could use this as resume' fodder...
..."Single handedly solved annoying driveline shudder by designing a steel shim for the carrier. Cost DC 50 cents. Value to customers...priceless."

Gunship,
Please, I would love to take a pic to my dealer of your shim work. Notice the "Browse" tab below the place where you are typing in your response. Click on "browse", then find the picture on your hardrive. Click on that file name and it will attached to your reply. Before you do all that, make the picture no larger than 640 x 480 in JPEG (.jpg) format for posting. Most picture handling programs will allow you to mess with the size and format.
I am sure that pic would help the dealer understand better what your guys did. I really want to whip this shudder and rattle.

When I lowered it in the back it was to get rid of the "stink bug" look that it had. To see what I did click here: http://www.dodgetrucks.org/forums/vi...ight=stink+bug

d**n Bob I thought you would have gotten that shudder fixed by your dealer. Have they worked on it again or are you waiting for the shim??

Spots,
I have dumped all the details and print outs I could in their lap so they can dig it out with DC. I am hitting the road for 3 weeks - - we will see what they found out when I get back. I will just take it easy in first gear. Hopefully the new clutch will burn in a bit - - it seems to be getting smoother with a few miles on it. I will be putting on about 2000 miles and some of them in the mountains - - that should help break it in pulling that fiver.
Cumminsho,
You are fixated on that dash rattle - - it is a dragon fly caught up under the dash.
Shuddering is only occurring under load on a couple long bed trucks when taking off in 1st gear (6 speed) and possibly now has happened in a couple 48RE's. There is a long thread on this if you want to do a search.

Re:Driveline shudder....GONE!
I just sold a 2002 dually 4x4 quad cab that had that same shudder and my four dealers told me that i had to live with it well that is crap so i just sold the truck, wished i still had it now that is an easy fix probally less than 30 min to fix Thanks for all the help this site is the best yet...
Re:Driveline shudder....GONE!
FiverBob,
Sorry this has taken so long. Hope this pic helps. The shim can be seen between the top part of the carrier and where it attaches to the support bracket attached to the bottom of the truck.

You is a good man, there Gunship. The pic is printed and will be in the hands of my dealer in the morning. I thank you muchly. Too late to do anything about it until I get back, but they can noodle it while I am gone. Thanks again.
