The factory input shaft is pretty beefy and will take a lot. If you don't remove a lot of the TQ management, don't use a lockup controller, and drive with a little restraint there is a good chance it will be just fine.

Towing 8k is not an issue with the stock shaft. Towing with 100 hp extra is not an issue with a stock input. A lot will depend on how the VB is setup to apply TC lockup and the pressures it runs. A mild pressure increase with a well timed shift strategy and lockup pressures works great.

However, if you like to play a bit, do boosted launches, etc, then you had better budget for one.

honestly I dont know about or dont know anything about lockup. And I dont pull enough with it to bother getting a controller. Mostly it is a show off truck, but I do want to be able to haul a 6000lbs boat 2 - 3 times a year, and maybe a 7500 lbs camper 2-3 times a year. Mostly it is going to be empty. But I do have new 35" tires and when these are used up might want 37, depends on prices of diesel. So far I think a shift kit and a tq converter is all that i need. What do you think??

thanks

I did a little playing but I think most of that is out of my system. I dont need any boosted launches. With my bullydog I did remove tq manager and did a little crazy larry. But since then I have put the tq manager back on most of the crazy larry is applied when I am already going. No boosted launchs. I just can launch with WOT but nothing boosted. And I have had it for a 4 months and only did it the day I got the Bullydog to see what I could get out of it.

thanks

Depends on your budget then. If you can afford it, then it's good insurance. I had to replace mine as ruined it when the direct clutches went and I am running a lockup switch. It fit in my budget so went ahead with billet input. I had run the lockup switch with the stock input and no problems but it is always a worry.
