Has anyone installed the Dodge Allison conversion kit on a 2500 yet.I saw the kit on DE STROKED website what are your thoughts on this kit? Is another after market tranny better than the Allison?

 

They all are! A built 48RE will handle way more power than a stock Allison. The extra gears in the Allison would be nice, but not worth all the trouble/expense IMO. If you're set on swapping in an Ally then give Suncoast a call, they also offer it for Dodge's.

If you're looking to stay with a 48RE then Goerend, HTS, ATS, & DTT are the big dogs who can bulid it strong for you.

 

Thanks I wasn't sure which direction to go on this. I've always heard allison was good.I'll look those other guys up what's your top pick from those guys you listed?

 

My top choice is Dave Goerend and that's who I went with. The others are all just as good from what I hear. I think it's safe to say you can't go wrong with any of the ones mentioned.

 

I would put a correctly built 48re up againist a built allison anyday. the allison is not what everyone builds it up to be. it also has more parts to be upgraded, so that means more parts to break. thats my .02

 

Not sure Suncoast is going to continue with that swap, you would have to check with them. I plan on just going full billet in the 48re then let the turbo sing

 

Just one thing I noticed today while look at an allison tore down, and having a broken 48re output shaft in my hand. Look at the difference between the output shaft on a 48re and the allison. Size does matter.

 

The output shaft on a 2wd Allison is huge compared to the 4wd version.

 

Just wait till you can get a 68RE if you want the extra gears........

 

Built 48RE is the way to go. Allison is over hyped.

 

Anybody hear anything yet on 68RFE or the Aisin for how they are working or if there is going to be an ability to retro-fit?

Suncoast has put up the "coming soon" post on their website.

 

I'm not sure how motivated Suncoast is on that project. I've heard not very.

It would be sweet to have the extra gears. When they can put a built one behind a 5.9 with 700+ HP and it holds doing 20psi 4x4 launches, I'll think about it.

 

I just talked with suncoast, they are just about ready to offer the Allison conversion. It will be "built" and it will use stock x-fer case on 4x4. It will also be, and I quote, over $10K!!!

 

Guess I can see how they got motivated to get going on it again. Over $10k...LOL!

 

Also, when speaking to them, they said that 68rfe was NOT (emphasis theirs ) going to be a good candidate for the retrofit, the Aisin probably would be but they are not pusuing either at this time.
