Do you run with your OVERDRIVE on in the City?

Just wondering if you guys run with your overdrive ON or OFF when driving in city traffic?

I find I get alot of "clucks" when in stop and go traffic.

Frist off I hope this is normal!

Second - turning the OD off seems to help.

Yes, I use mine alot. When I'm in traffic or moving under 45 (or so depending) I turn OD off.

I leave mine turned off under 60 and will actually cruise at 55mph in 3rd. Dropping it in OD bogs the engine to bad.

I always drive with the OD on even in LA traffic. The noises you hear might be what I experienced with my truck when I first bought it. When going up a hill under moderate throttle my truck would make this "chuffing" sound as it shifted into OD. At first I could not figure out what it was, but I removed the silencer ring from the turbo and have never had the sound again. The sound I heard was blow back though the turbo when the RPM's dropped suddenly...This could be what you are hearing.....

I leave the OD button alone and let the computer in the truck, which is smarter than me, figure out when to shift. I pull a 5000# utility trailer around all day and it doesn't hunt for gears so I don't bother.

Question: "DO you ever use Overdrive in the City?"

Answer: "No. I never go above 5th gear." [laugh]

Do you run with your OVERDRIVE on in the City?

All the time. Otherwise, I loose about 2 miles to the gallon.

Yes, the Tow/Haul button is the same thing as the O/D button.

Yes, I leave it in O/D all the time. This great forum taught me that if it starts hunting for a gear it's time to hit the Tow/Haul button and disable overdrive. My truck hasn't hunted for O/D yet.
