differential questions
I just changed the oil in the front and rear diffs, in the front I found several small chunks of gear, less than an 1/8th of an inch. Not much stuff on the magnet. Should I be worried about that?
In the rear everything looked fine. oil looked burntish gold still
I was doing some research here before doing this, and I must have got my info mixed up. I used 85w-140 per my grandpas recommendation in the front and rear.
I just looked at the book and it says for 2003 and newer use synthetic 75-90, how important is this? can I drive it two more days before I change it, if i need to? this is the first time I ever changed the oil in the diffs of any truck I have owned I knew I was going to mess something up!

If it was me "yes" I would be worried, if you keep it in 2 wheel drive it wont hurt, but I would be thinking about changing out the ring and pinion, and yes I would replace the set, If you miss match gears you will get a whine. And I always use synthetic gear lube. theres a lot of heat generated in the diff`s especially the rear, as it is used all the time. good luck

Fiftygrit pretty much nailed it.
I would drain the front diff and also get a can of brake parts cleaner to spray it clean real good. Lift the front off the ground so you can spin the driveshaft (use jack stands
) and take a bright light and inspect it very closely. It may also be some diff casting and not gears. probably gears though but lets hope it's not.
You can drive a few days on the rear fluid before changing to synthetic with out any problems!
