Angry Diff fluid coming out of the rear diff filler plug...

I just changed my diff fluid in the rear axle and now every time I park uphill in front of my house, there is oil leaking out of that filler plug....

I did not overfill it - level is 1/2 inch below the hole (right where the mark is stamped into the cover) when truck is leveled - I triple checked. And it has nothing to do with fluid temp, etc.

The plastic gasket/washer looks good, no cracks, etc. (but obviously doesn't seal it).

I tightened it twice already and it must be at least 35 ft-lbs ...if not more... (more would make no sense IMO and spec is 32 Nm). {edit: I meant 35 Nm not ft-lbs}

I remember I had the same BS the last time I changed it. But I cannot remember how I fixed it...

Am I the only guy having this problem?

Where can I get a copper or aluminum washer to replace that stupid plastic one... I checked at Autozone and Kragen, but they are too small....

Have you tried some pipe thread tape?

I had the same problem on my front cover. New washer from Oreilley's did not work. Teflon tape did not work. Applied a little silicone to the threads and the problem went away.

I have found yarn works well. running ford 9'' gears in the race car we change them from track to track. instead of using silicone or a gasket we always use yarn and works very well. I have used this in many applications over the years. No reason to scrap gaskets on many items.
I run about 3 wraps around anything I am working with and it makes for a great gasket.

lol, Yes yarn. The guys at the tracks are always scraping silicone and pilling on more orange goop every time they change a gear. I only have told my buddys about the yarn and they love it.

As far as thickness I dunno, its a large ball of it that my Mother used to knit with. I have used the same roll for 10+ years.

I would guess it to be 1/8'' thick and use it on many applications now.

Any leaks in the diffs, always check the vents for being plugged.

there is a speed sensor plug (which I thought is an Elocker when I bought it)
