Dif oil ?

How much is needed in both front and rear? Will adding more hurt it?

I THINK 7 qrts will do both but I sure someone will know for sure. You really cant add too much b/c in the manual it says within +/- 1/4" of the fill hole, well if you go 1/4 over it will be pourin out so just fill it to the hole.

Adding too much oil in the defferentials will cause foaming which causes less lubrication. So follow the manual and stay a tad below the fill hole

There is a fill line on the outside of the rear diff cover. Looks to be about 3/4 inch below the bottom of the hole. Thats where I filled mine to!! I filled the front to about the same as I didn't see a fill line on the front cover. 7 quarts should fill both diffs also.

Yeah, there were a couple of LONG treads about that. Apparently the fill hole was made too high on early 03's and there was a thing sent out to dealers not to fill them that high. Then they started stamping a fill line on the rear cover.

the fill line on my rear cover is crooked. not too bad, but you might need to be on some unlevel ground to fill it to the line.

Yes, seven quarts is enough to do both, and yes, you fill it up until it runs out the fill hole. There is no way to get it wrong.

Maybe I'm missing something really bad,but how do you tell when you've hit this "Fill Line" with the cover on the diff?

Do you take your EXTEND-a-EYEBALL, peer through the fill hole & look down
at the line....? Maybe it will be obvious if I look but this has got me

I either use an allen wrench, or bend a piece of wire at a 90 to use as a dipstick.

When i changed the dif oils only place i have to do it is my drive way. if you see my pice my drive way has a steep slope. So when i added oil4 qt i couldnt feel with my finger so i added one more. Plus i wasnt sure if it was 4 or five. Garage is to small to back truck in and street to narrow.

full to the point of running out the hole is fine too... when you look at the spec, it calls for 1/4" below the fill hole, plus/minus 1/4" so full to the hole is in spec, or 1/2" below the hole is ok too...

and i am quite sure i purchased 7 bottles for doing my front/rear diffs
