Did not think that the 600 was supposed to smoke??
Cool, I'll have to give that a try. Thanks

Well, I hauled the 15,000 lb 5er around this weekend for about 150 miles. This was the first pull since the new flash. It seems to have a little less pickup than before while towing, but unfortunately I did not see an increase in the mileage as a result of the flash while towing. The computer was reporting about 9.5 MPG at about 60-65. Tows well, but I am very skeptical that the mileage is going to get better under tow or unloaded. I guess I will have to live with about 14-15 on the highway and about 10 hauling the 5er.
For those box makers out there: Forget the power, give me some mileage back on this 600!

I applied an old trick to mine yesterday to help with the pump lubrication and hopefully a little more MPG and power. I added 1/2 quart of SAE 30 valvoline to 35 gallons of fuel and the engine appears to be enjoying it as the computer is showing about a 1.3 MPG gain and appears stronger throughout and the idle is smoother. Romping on it yields just a hint of smoke.
This is a trick that my family has used in the big rigs for years and years and since I am not in Cali I could care less about the Cat. Alternatively, ATF can also be used.
I will update once in a while on my results--but so far I like it.

Mine will smoke a lot if I get on, and a whole lot with the TST on about 6/6 when I floor it at about 65 mph. However, it's nothing like the 2nd gen. My smoke is a grayish color, not black. There is a long, steep hill that I travel a lot at night. If I look in the side mirror, I can see smoke in the headlights of the car behind me the entire way up this hill. I can't see it in the day time. I wish I could get it to smoke on command like my friends with 5sp 2nd generation. I don't think there is anything wrong with my truck because it does smoke, I would be more concerned if it didn't smoke at all.

I had a friend that ran a bottle through his 91 CTD every month...towed 15,000 pounds regularly, and had 191,000 miles when he traded it for a F250 gasser...he wished he had gotten another diesel. It never hurt that truck.

For those of you who believe your Diesel engine (600 or otherwise) won't produce smoke when you romp on it, Have your wife, friend, Mom, Dad, Brother or Sister drive it while you follow close behind in the Hyundai.......you will see that it does produce smoke when you put the pedal to the medal. Also, at night when you have headlights behind you, romp on it and take a look see in the right hand mirror.....you will see some smoke..........it's normal too.

and low and behold I was able to see a slight amount of greyish smoke for a second....not much though but just a slight amount barely visible.
