Well after a few weeks of my clutch slipping pretty bed I have decided to go ahead and order a Southbend Clutch. I spent a few days running though some posts to decide whic one to get for my 03 H.O. I was leaning towards the 1947 Con FE. I called Peter and ha said I should go with the 1947 Con OFE. I took his advice and ordered the OFE and a flywheel. Now it's on its way and I am second guessing my decision. Should I have gotten the FE?? I am looking for some further opinions on the matter here before I go and put it in.

My truck is an 03 H.O. Dually
mods are: Full 4" exhaust including 4" elbow, No muffler, 30-60-100 quadzilla
I plan on having the Quad upgraded to the 140 box and I do haul a trailer weighing about 8500 lb 4-5 times a month. I do not drive the truck slow, I test my clutch. I'd rather not have some Duramax or PS driver laughing at me when he passes my up because my clutch won't hold in 6th gear.
Do you think the OFE will hold up ?
How bad is the "abruptness" of the FE?

 

The Fe does chatter. Its not bad, but its not smooth either. Its kinda hard to describe.

When backing up, if you don't give it some diesel, it has the potential of making the whole truck "buck". Reverse is much more harsh than forward.

I've had mine for almost a year. Its something you get used to.

You will for sure not mistake it for a stock clutch.

The key is you power goals. If it 500, then the Fe is only way to go, unless you get a DD.

 

My OFE has held more than a few 600+ HP pulls on a load dyno and it gets PLENTY of heavy towing. It's held like a rock so far (much to my suprise). However, I don't do hard launches or abuse it. If you want to launch hard get the FE but you will definately give up some drivability and smoothness when backing.
