Haven't been on the forum in awhile I'm a dodge guy at heart , but I believe ford will not have half as many problems with this engine as the 6.0. They have had this engine in the works for quite some time now and it won't be as troublesome, it can't be or ford is done.

 

I can gaurantee that there are a lot of engineers with there fingers crossed and sweating bullitts. What that 6.0 did to ford and ford quality cannot happen a 2nd time. or youll be either buying a fordevrolet, fodge or mayby a foyota. Even diehard ford people are thinking twice about purchacing. But the new owners will be proud with a brake controller the size of texas right in the middle of the dash

 

Well, at least there is no muffler to worry about. So much for the KISS Engineering concept. (Keep it Simple Stupid) Also when the injectors go bad they’ll be so quiet you won’t even know it. Good thing I already bought mine for I’d be afraid of any of the new diesels until they ring ‘em out for a few years.

 

The funny thing is the 6.0 when used in international trucks has 0 problems. Probably the main reason is because they are only spinning them to 2700 rpm. whereas ford is going to almost 4k rpm... Of course the engineers have there fingers crossed but I believe they might have done something right here and tested it properly. there was a pdf i looked at before of this engine awhile back and the pdf was dated to jan 04. so they had already been testing it back then already. I just hope it works out for them. I love diesels and would hate to see another engine go down like the 6oh did.

Is it me or do the +-05's feel like you are sitting too far to one side of the steering wheel or is that just me??

Do you guys really think that the 6.0 has tarnished the Ford name when you talk to Ford fanatics. I still see more Ford PSD's on the road more then any other. I think that if Ford put another POS engine in there people would still buy it and stand behind them. I know plenty of smart guys that still buy PSD's but turn their head when other bad mouth the engines.

Unless Dodge steps up its 4500-5500 game many agencies and contractors will buy Ford because thats what they have always had and need a F550.

Its scary to see how many 6.0 PSD's that are used by goverment, state, private, and county agencies that our community depends on.

 

I hope for the sake of all the employees at ford, the U.S. economy and suppliers etc etc that this engine is a home run. They are in real trouble and we all should be rootin' for them. I don't know if another 6.0 would sink them, I hope we don't have to find out.

 

I agree... With Toyota and Nissan possibly coming out with a 3/4 and 1 ton diesel engine truck, we might be getting a run for our money, all USA brands need to be on top.

 

Based completely on looks I think it is sweet in and out. I thought Dodges were nasty when they went with the crazy bodystyle I now own and love. There are gonna be bugs with the engine, you just can't get around it. I do hope it works well for them though. The competition is great, and I'd hate to see a great american truck builder go away.

 

I saw three of the 2008s here in Utah on I-15 doing a test. The grills were camoflouged a little bit. I thought they looked good. Fords have always seemed a bit higher quality than Dodge, IMO. If it only had a CTD.

 

It isn't the manufacturers that want all the extra "garbage" hanging on the engines, it is the law and current technology, like it or not. I have owned 20 Ford trucks between a 1963 (not purchased in '63... not quite that old ) to a 2002. They were all great trucks. In 2004 I wanted a 1/2 ton and didn't like the F150 styling and liked the looks of the Dodge. I swapped the 1/2 ton Dodge for my new '06 1 ton. Went with Dodge again for the engine. The Ford interiors are significantly better in terms of fit and finish and being quiet. I do like the looks of the SuperDuty Fords and I will consider a Ford with my next purchase, if the new Ford diesel gets the 7.3 reputation.
My new Dodge is an improvement over the '04. It is quieter and the door doesn't sound like a garbage can when closing it now. That may be from additional sound proofing for the diesel.
I am not one to bash the competion. I am not "married" to any one company and when it is time, I will look at all of the trucks and make a buying decision.
But for now I am satified with the Dodge......Just get bored with my vehicles and tend to swap more often than most.. 2-3 years and I will be looking again.

There should be a rule that no engine manufacturer can put crap over the top of valve covers. How long do you think that it would take to get the driver's side valve cover off that engine ? It looks like part of the turbo is mounted over it.

Look at the testing plan on page 29. A whole 1 million miles. Wow. Doesn't seem like much to me. On about 50 trucks to boot. An average of only 20K miles per truck. What a crock ! And notice that testing started in June and its October... so what about winter testing ?

$20 says the 6.4 is going to be worse than the 6.0 was.

 

Wow - I hadn't done the math on the 1 million miles. That's a good life for two diesel trucks if they're built right, not 50...

 

Is the High pressure fuel pump under the intake manifold??

Why would you put the fuel rail in such a heated space??

Piezo injection technology??? Please explain!

Interior is looking better and I also like the guage package.

I think it looks great I have had fords and build quality is better than my dodge. But they just don't have the Cummins or the MegaLimo option. If they dont get this right it will spell disaster for them and American autos in general. Toyota is now #2 and will pass the General soon enough I have owned Toyotas and still would if they had a Diesel option in there trucks, which they may as soon as 2008. Ford will always have a following but every generation of new truck buyers will move further away from them. All of the Amercan motor co. had better step it up. Because Toyota and Nissan could easily take over in the next 5-10 years, especially if they bring the 1tons and diesels. It is going to get interesting...
