Dealerships closing in MA

What is up with MA Dodge dealers lately?.. Boston area dealers closing shop. Any MA folks here? Any news yet?

Just had some major warranty work done in the last couple of months.. just in time. Funny, they almost seemed hungry. Put a lot of parts under my hood and spent some real money in labor.. never saw the labor price, but it was almost like they were looking for things to fix.. They DID fix it.. Now, a business that has been here for ever.. closed along with three or four others as I search and read some other forum threads. I'm needing some warranty work on my frontend. Have to call the Chrysler hot line to see where I have to go for the work... bet I'll standing in a long line.

Anyone have any news links or comments to add?

Can't really find a link to it, but near the end of last year, Chrysler stated that they wished to close over 1000 dealerships in the near future. They also stated that they could stand to close nearly 3000 dealerships, but the goal for the immediate future was 1000. It's a shame. They have calculated what a typical customer is "willing" to drive for sales and service , not what would benefit the community and people that are directly affected. The reasons I am told are due to the excessive cost of "support" the smaller dealers require! It is really a shame.

You can go to Dodge.com and do a search for dealers by zip code. They will give you a list of dealers within a certain radius.

Chrysler (guess it's not DC anymore) is out to kill off the small dealers, which is real bad for us. They want all sales to go through mega dealers who have no local competition. Guess what that means for prices?

Chrysler has basically told the medium sized dealers to get big or get bought. They have told the small dealers to get bought or get forced out. That's my understanding, and I am not happy, as I rely on a small dealer. The nearest large dealer is a rip-off specialist.
