Exactly! and that gets annoying as heck. And im sure it can't be to good for the tranny.
to the earlier post: I didn't know I could shift down to 2nd in tow/haul and keep 50+ MPH. Figured that wasn't good for anything either. I will have to give that a try next time.
The downshift to 2nd happens somewhere around 45 to 47. Its hard to tell with the stupid virtual speedo. I try to keep it above 50 to make sure it doesn't but its not a big deal if it does, just kick it back to drive and then back to 2 when you speed up. Beats fighting with OD shift if you are doing a lot of speed up/slow down in that mph range.
i test drove an 06 yesterday and you can lockout overdrive. but the thing i didnt like was you have to be in either tow/haul mode or in overdrive lockout. so what im saying is you cant lockout overdrive when your in tow/haul mode. and the torque converter will unlock at 45mph when you have overdrive lockout on.but it will stay locked up down to 20mph when your in tow/haul
Guys, Pecan is right on. If you want to hold 3rd on a hill and you are over 50mph just throw it into 2nd on the shift selector. It won't downshift until you get to about 45mph and if it does downshift you are dropping speed and probably need the extra 3000 rpm H.P. I like my '03 ...I have lock up in 1st through 4th and an 0D lock out. Tow/Haul isn't needed on my set up but it was nice on the dmax's I had. ks
Horse, I'd try it both ways with and without a load to see what effect the tow haul has on shift points. Tow Haul usually is more beneficial when slowing. Once you start manually shifting it is not important I'd think. ks

Jim -
Thanks for the post - learned something (the "above 50" trick).
I will send my two cents to D/C about not making the EB available
for the '05 48re (computer is capable).
Even if there's a cost involved - why not make the Trans OD lockout
upgrade and the EB upgrade available? Let the owner decide . . . and the
dealer service depts could make a few more bucks.
D/C is losing future customers over these items!

It doesn't matter if tow\haul is engaged when you down shift to 2nd. The downshift is pressure controlled in the VB. Manual is manual so you are overriding everything else. The nice thing about manual 2nd is the TC will lock and provide more braking if you need it or let you run a bit faster in slow moving traffic until you can shift to drive again.
