Cost for new cp3?

My son took his 05 to the dodge house in Oklahoma city due to a very noticable miss at idle only, other than that the truck runs fine, was told by the serv manager his rail pressure was 6k @ idle and 12k @wot and probably will need a new cp3. they said a new one is $2500 and another $500 or so to install it....so does this sound right? also the truck is a BONE STOCK 3500 6speed with 180k miles Thanks in advance

I believe if I found the right part on dodgeparts.com the list price is like 1600. That said I found a couple on ebay, on was re-manufactured for 775 or best offer, I would say you can find it cheaper. I would go to cummins and see what there cost is, I know it will be cheaper then 2500

Call T&C Diesel. I believe they will sell you a pump for less than $1600.
You can likely do the install yourself; it's not too difficult.
Also, talk with Todd, or have some more testing done to make sure the CP3 is the problem before you replace it.

dieselpowerproducts.com has them advertised for $850 new... I don't have any affiliation with the company - I just did a Google search for CP3 Dodge and CP3 Cummins and they were one of the results...

Richard at Glacier diesel sells them for around 900 if i remember correctly. Install it your self its a half hour to an hour swap. Three bolts, one shaft nut, fuel supply, fuel return, high pressure supply, and fca connection.

Here is a write up

Before I let a Dealer replace my CP3, I would want something in writing, that if this does not cure the symptoms, I'm not paying, or they pay for additional parts and labor.... I hate Dealers, half the time they are guessing on your dime.

OldSmokey, your much quicker than I am, it would take me a 1/2 an hour just to get the left front wheel and wheel liner off the truck, so I can access the CP3. That is a good link you provided, Thank you!

As previously stated they are not hard to do if you have only a slight amount of mechanical experience.

I would also be looking at the pressure relief valve and make sure its not bleeding off and causing the low rail pressure. Also verify that the connector tube nuts are torqued correctly. There are several things besides the inj. pump that could be the problem. Possibly a bad fca on the inj. pump. Not sure what performance shops are near you but it mightbe worth your time to find one and let the check it out.

+1 on the pressure relief valve. I had mine go south on me... Luckily I was still on warranty.
