Is it possible? Here's what I want to do. I currently have a SRW with 315's and want to make the rear a dually using the wheels and tires I have now, but adding the 2 inner tires and wheels. I then can add fenders or a entire dually bed to complete it. Where do you start with parts? Do you have to use dually rear wheels? Looking for some guidance as I'm sure this has been either done or attemped.

 

Anybody tried this? Is it even possible?

 

they make adapter kits for trucks that want to be dually's arrow is one of the companies i belive. to run 315 you will need spacers. the dually's only come with 235 80's

 

you can run larger tires on a stock dually rim

i have seen 285/70/17s on stock rims, my next set will be the same

you will have to have the conversion kit or dually rims though

the dually have a serious offset on the rims to allow the dual rears to be used on the front end also

i don't know if i would trust the adapter set up for towing heavy

the drw rims are a whole lot heavier wall steel for towing heavy loads and to allow for the stress caused by the large offset

i would get new drw rims to be safe

 

I saw a Ford dually yesterday running 315s on stock rims. No offense but it looked kind of dumb. It's just too much.
You can't reuse your SRW rims because the offsets won't work out. You will need some dually rims.

 

you know, i've actually thought about doing the opposite. I have a '03 DRW and am not needing all that anymore. I was wondering if there was a way to knock it down to a SRW and get rid of those wide hips?

 

I've got an '03 that I want to make a Dually!! Cool maybe we can switch. What color is your truck?

 

On a couple of the big rigs around here, instead of dually in the rear, they have switched over to an enlarged rear rim that holds just a single tire but can carry the load of a dually. Looks bad A$$ also seeing this huge wide tire under the trailer and cab.

I'm not sure who makes those rims but are direct replacement from drw to srw but retain the weight holding of drw.

I wondered what they would look like on our trucks.

 

You can go here: http://www.chromewheel.com/ for wheels and adapters. Never run oversized tires on a dually as excessive heat will build up between the two tires. I'm sure they make spacers to keep them farther apart.

It's red! It's an '03 Quad Cab, Long Bed, DRW. I'm currently in Little Rock AR, but in June i will be getting stationed up at Kansas City, MO. I've been trying to figure out what all we would have to switch if this was to happen.

 

Rear axle, spacers in the front, rims, and of course the bed.
the dually rear axle is about 3" wider.

 

I've seen it done on a ferd before, it looks OK, but he kept the fenders for the dually. He just put a set of super wide tires on the rear.

 

I couldn't fit 265's on my rear duallies without touching when loaded. You need at least 1/2 inch when empty between the tires to ensure the tires won't touch loaded going over bumps and the such. Some tires are wider than others at the sidewall. My 235 st's were narrower than stock and the 265's were wider than most. ks

 

The front spacers are called Extension Wheel Housings, Dodge PN 50155234AA; and I think you'll also need to swap out the lug nuts too.
