Con O or Con OFE

I am going to be replacing my tranny and am figuring I should do the clutch too. Anyone have advice on the South Bend Con O vs the Con OFE? I have a stock truck with just a quad tow box so there is no high horsepower requirements. Thoughts?

the con o would probably be fine if you didnt do anything any higher hp then what you have now. if you do anything else i would go with the ofe but it will be a little more grabby when you take off the o is going to be a smoother clutch

I have heard about the OFE being a bit more grabby. How much more grabby I guess is the question? Not sure if I want some room to grow ont he horsepower end though? The stock clutch has made it 190K thusfar.

the O should work for you

the OFE feels similar to stock (grab) imo

So for the $100 or $200 would there be a benefit to the OFE??

Not sure what the real advantage is to the O vs the OFE except for the price? Side note.....anyone know when the G56 gearing changed? Is it when it went behind the 6.7 L of could you get it in a 5.9L with the new gearing?

OFE can handle more, power or abuse, so I would opt for it. Mine is not like stock at all, but it is bearable, the OFE has a 3600lb plate load vs stocks 3000-3250lb, so clutch is a little stiffer and there is a little shudder on takeoff or in reverse, but it tows well and handles well for the extreme abuse I've put through mine. It also will be a slightly noisier clutch than stock so be prepared for that. But you get what you pay for.

No, IMO you would be better with the OFE for the price. It will last you longer with the feramic side being able to take more abuse than organic. SBC all the way.

I agree except on the noise issue, my OFE is no noisier than the stock clutch (you will notice a little more transmission noise though because you're getting rid of the dual mass flywheel).

I've just finished breaking in my OFE, the pedal pressure feels about the same and it's only the slightest bit grabbier than the stocker.
Keep in mind with the G56 you'll need the hydraulic upgrade as well, that adds another $300 or so...

Ya I know another $300 for the hydraulics on top of a $1000 clutch. Never had any issues in 190K with the stock clutch at $400. Almost considering putting stock back in versus $1300 for SB route. I hate to say it, but 3 to 1 pricing and the stock may be worth it.

Peter, '06 6speed with the G56. I plan on putting in an '07 G56 with the new gearing if that has any impact?

Treangen, there's probly lotsa people on here (including me) who have their old stock clutch setups just sitting in their garage. I bet there's lots (like me) who don't have many miles on them and just swapped them for a SB after it slipped a couple times.
