Re:Computer reflash recall....

I have over 9000 miles on the truck 8000 of which has been on cruise probably. No problems at all! But I got my recall today and will be getting the reflash on Saturday. Will post any noticeable results.

Monte

Re:Computer reflash recall....

I took my truck in today for the recall and they reflashed the ECM. I have about 9500 miles on it. Most have been while towing a 14,800 # fifth wheel.

My cruise control has been a little slow to react. It was a lot more noticable when pulling the heavy load. It would be a little late accellerating when starting up a hill, then it would gain a few miles per hour after topping the hill. In other words, it kicked in a little later than it should and stayed in a little longer than it should.

The terrain between home and the dealer is fairly gentle so when coming home, I was unable to tell much difference. Hopefully when we hook the fiver up again, it will have helped.

Re:Computer reflash recall....

This is a bit off the exact subject but....my '97 had a horrible overshoot on the cruise when pulling a load. when cresting a hill that i lost speed going up the c.c. would overspeed by 5-6 mph before backing off and returning to the set speed. I hope they have improved that. It wasn't quite as noticable with no load - but it still overshot then too.

Re:Computer reflash recall....

alot of the old cruise systems worked on a cable and linkage system. The overshoot, poor performance problem you encountered could have been an adjustment.

Re:Computer reflash recall....

Hey guys. Check your mileage after you have the reflash. I saw some stuff I didn't like. Don't have enough miles yet to call it for sure, but it seemed like my mpg dropped about 2 mpg after the flash. Watch yours. I reset my computer one day before the reflash in my quest for setting up typical mileages for different conditions, speeds, etc. Suddenly, one day later, my mileage tanked. I can't imagine they ran the vehicle that much while fixing. I have reset again and run against known parameters and I am seeing about a 2 mpg drop. Not good. We'll see with more miles.

UnhappyBob

Re:Computer reflash recall....

Bob,
This is the very reason I am in the wait and see mode before I take mine in for the reflash. I have heard of the same type of problem you are experiencing along with other problems after the reflash, most notably a loss in power. I have not had any problems with the cruise control. My truck was built in December. I will wait until DC narrows down what trucks actually need the reflash.

Therefore, I feel fairly confident in using the figures as being pretty close.

I might have hit the panic button a little too quick. Was out again today with the Ghost and set up the 60 mph scenario for about 40 miles on the interstate. Other than a lot of mad people about me going that slow, I seem to be with .5 mpg of previous tests. That is not enough miles to test it any closer than that. I did check with the mechanic and he had played with the computer in the reflash for some reason. Hence, my panic when I read the thing about 30 miles later and saw the terrific decrease.

Power? I feel it is as quick as it was before the reflash. I will keep you posted on the next tankfull and mileage.

SighOfReliefBob

Re:Computer reflash recall....

Just re-read my post. Didn't mean to be so "obstant" or "for sure" as it seems.

My overhead computer shows a 2mpg error. It does it with mixed road and country driving.

On the interstate from exit to exit (200 mile haul) it was about .5mpg off.

The traffic is so thick out there sometimes you are doing good to get 60 - - it's all those Michigan license plates in the lane built for them - - the left lane. GGGRRRRRR > > Oh well, Easter is almost here. Then the old 75 will be loaded on the north side - - all headin' home so we can have some room to breathe again.

HanginOnBob

Re:Computer reflash recall....

Hi Folks,
Before you all get to wondering about a "reflash" ,I'd like to say this ... If it's working..Don't fix it!
There are so many guys at the Ford site freaking out about Reflashes , Etc that it's gotten amusing . Mines an early production date ,yet it hasn';t let me down . You'll know if your 5.9 is acting up . For the most part I don't believe that there will be a problem . Only a slight difference in engine behavior . As much as I am hessitant to say it , the 5.9 is probably the most dependable engine on the market .
Sorry for the ramble , John

Re:Computer reflash recall....

WhatEverYourNameIsBob,
I'm set to have the reflash done at the dealer (new and improved version ) Monday evening. I have not had a single problem with the cruise control (or anything else) so I'm a little hessitant about the reflash. I sure would like to hear a recomendation from you after you drive the White Ghost this weekend.

The Boss Hog
(nervous in Florida)

BTW, had to pass a guy this morning going to work on a two lane road. I must say roll-on from 50 mph in 6th is getting to be down right awesome ;D
