Compression guage and what engine #

Where can I get a good engine guage to check compression on my engine? My bore scope is to large to fit in and look at the cylinders and I found one that would fit but I don't want to spend $2000 for it.

How would I tell or how can I find out what engine I have. I have a 2006 2500 5.9. When I went into cummins on Friday the parts man ask me what number or series? I've heard of "Ibe" and there is another one I guess.

Thanks for helping.

You have an ISB.

However, on the valve cover should be a sticker with info on it to include your engine serial #. Give that to the parts guy and he'll go from there.

I know that mac tools has a compression test for diesel that is about 270 dollars, snap on also has a gauge and the adapter you need. I sure both OTC and Matco have a test setup too.
