cold start

why is it that when its really cold out say -15 i start it n automatically goes to high idle 1000 rpm can it not start normal then after say a min go to 1000 rpm
i dont like how right off of the bat its on high idle
is there a dealer program to change that or a trick or is this something that stays like this forever

i understand it when it gets cold truck will automatically high idle to keep warm

I don't know the temperatures that trip high idle, but in my experience at certain temps it will start normal and then ramp up to high idle after a little bit, but if it's cold enough it immediately goes to high idle.

In other words it's normal.

If it does automatically start to high idle at a certain low threshold I'd run 5w40 oil so the oil flows easier right away.

My thinking is the same as steelblitzkrieg's though.

Perhaps that can be programmed out by the dealer and set for manual high idle control only. But ask a tech or dealer, I don't know that info.
