Codes on my 06 2500 Ram
Codes on my 06 2500 Ram
So... heading to roping practice and the truck started running rough, check engine light came on and truck went into limp mode. Got it home and checked the codes:
P 2146
P 2509
P 0299
P 0201
Help! This is the truck we use to haul our horses to ropings as well as being my daily driver to get my kids around. Did some research and learned we may need to change the valve cover gasket. Any further information would be great! Looking to do the repair myself and try to keep it inexpensive...
Thanks!
Oh, and as far as I know the truck is stock. No upgraded air filters or anything.

Good Morning; Welcome to the Forum;
2146 Bank 1 Injectors 1-3 Shorted (wiring)
2509 EMC/PCM Signal Itermittent
0299 Turbo Underboost
0201 Injector # 1 Control circuit
You need to remove the valve cover and check the wires on #1 Injector and Ohm it as well. Also check the wiring as its come thru the head on the side into the injector area.
You may have one or more bad injectors or wire problems.

Crap...
I replaced the valve cover gasket and the codes all cleared from the display. Here's the problem now: it is still running rough. It reminds me of a vacuum leak or a clogged filter. How many filters do I have and are they all inline? Is a vacuum leak possible in a diesel?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Just one fuel, oil, and air filter. Air is on the front right of the engine compartment. Oil is on the passenger side, kind of underneath the tube coming off the air filter box. Fuel filter is on the drivers side, toward the rear.
There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!

When troubleshooting always start with the small things first and work your way up. These trucks can act weird over the small things.
While you're in there changing out the fuel filter, look above that area and see the bundles of wiring and connectors on the firewall. Push the connections together and make sure nothing got knocked loose. Also check all your boots & hose connections that they are snug.
Here's how to change the fuel filter: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...n&onlynewfaq=1

You cannot have a vacuum leak, but you can have a boost leak. That will give you low power if it is big enough to feel. Should not have any effect on idle as you do not have a mass air flow sensor. Start with the small stuff and work your way up as shorts said. Just thinking but there was a issue that some guys were seeing where the wiring going to the A/C clutch grounded out and caused a rough idle, but I would be shocked if that was the problem with no code.
