Checking for codes bad for computer?

After engine light went on (and then off after about five starts) I'm getting a code when I check for codes with on off key procedure. P-1757. Dealer says that no codes come up with their scan tool and that cycling the ignition like that may have damaged the computer. That's news to me. Anyone heard of this?
Thanks...Rick

Sounds like it to me too. Can't imagine that DC would equip our trucks with this function if it was a NO NO to do. Next stop another dealer. Thanks mymar.

Try pushing the trip button the turn the key to the on position then release the button, should give you all the stored codes

Using the trip technique also shows stored codes?

No, holding the trip reset while turning the key will show you the instrument cluster codes. These are NOT the same as the OBD-II powertrain codes. Powertrain codes are displayed by cycling the ignition key three times.
