Can engine serial number tell you if auto or manual?

I have a 2005 5.9 HPCR in my Ford. Engine serial number is 57238756. Is there a way to know if this was originally an auto or manual transmission engine? Is there is way to tell on the computer, too? I want to verify that they can or should go together.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Yes because engines are equipped for either manual or auto tranny at the factory from Cummins.

Thanks for the confirmation. Where would I check this out? Cummins or Dodge?

If you went through Cummins use the engines CPL number and that should say if it came with a tranny cooler or not.
Then you would know if its an auto or manual.
Same with flywheel or flexplate on the list of parts.

PourinDiesel,

Thanks, again. Is the CPL number the same as the serial number on the valve cover?

No the CPL is a different number usually about 4 digits long.
It will say "CPL 1234" (you get the picture)
