I just checked my VIN and there was no recall... But I bought it out of state, so maybe they "forgot" about mine... or it doesn't need it, coz its one of the last ones built in 2007 w/ the 5.9l engine...

mattk50,
Smogs are every other year in CA. You must be on your off year. I think it is based on the last digit of your vin. You don't need to be in a rush to get yours done. I don't think DMV is even aware of this recall yet, as someone else referenced that works there. I want to here about more the ones that have had it done, mpg issues, etc.

My registration renewal is due on 7/31/2010 - but there is no indication of SMOG stuff on there... maybe mine isn't CA smog equipped or whatever they call it. She had 10k miles on it when I first registered her in Cali...(bought out-of State).

I don't want them to reprogram anything.

BTW, is everybody paying $471 for the registration renewal (license fee $203 and $204 weight fee)? Thats just crazy!

Yeah Bigiron,
The reflash notice comes as a recall notification from Chrysler. When is your renewal due?

I have yet to recieve the recall notice as well and my registration is due as well at the end of June. Thank god I didn't get the smog this year. I have to find a kitty.. Anyone want to ship me a Magnaflow cat? Shops won't send you one in Cali...

Anyone know if this is locks out the PCM for programmers? I would absolutely hate to give up my Smarty JR.

remember that this recall is not a choice. If you don't get it done, you can't get your registration done in cal. What it does to mpg and hp does not matter to the state.

My renewal is due 7/31. Thanks for the info. I did just get the steering recall notification which doesn't apply to me. They might have forgotten about me because I bought the truck out of state. I think I'll run my VIN on the recall web site.

I have no idea what exactly they are doing with the flash, but I do know that some of the data that it output thru the OBDII port is wrong, mainly the fuel load, and fuel flow data. The same was true with the Liberty CRD several years ago and the EPA/DMV/whoever made Chrysler fix it, no idea why the trucks weren't included (probably lack of emissions testing)... but I would guess thats the main reason behind the flash, I would guess other states will require it as the years progress.

If that is the case good news for owners of ScanGauges, as they MPG/fuel calculations aren't accurate right now.

I checked the Dodge house by running my vin and saw I wasn't picked for a recall, but the wonderful state of KA picked me for a Smog Check.

2006 Megacab G56

I just had my stock 2006 Megacab smogged here in California. I have received the recall notice but didn't have any recall done. The Smog Machine communicated with the PCM just fine. It checked for emissions related codes and checked that the monitors were complete just as it should. I would recommend that nobody worry about it until there is a problem.

My buddy got one a few years ago with his Ford, the dealer sent him and MANY others a notice that they had a recall with the OBD something or another....

My friend had the same thoughts as you guys...something just wasnt right about it...his friend who I do not know, went in a did it and reported that RIGHT AWAY his motor was DETUNED and felt very sluggish...he went home and looked at a recent dyno sheet and noted that with his edge juice he was turning the wheels of the dyno at XXX HP and TQ...he hooked his juice back up and rolled the wheels again and found that after the RECALL he was on average or 3 runs 85 hp off...his first run was 96 hp off.

now this is almost 3 years ago and it is a FORD recall and while it was a persons truck I do not know, I do trust my friend I work with him at the Fire Department and he has NO reason to lie to me...He never took his truck in and traded it in on a Jeep Wrangler Rubacon. But his observation is relevent to your fears....

I think it will have something to do with your motor and messing with something in the programming either to make it "CLEANER" or to "DETUNE" it somehow.

NCA

PS...BrownDG.....we work at Cordelia Fire Protection District.....and if BrownDG stands for DOG..I got one TOOOOO

The Ford recall was to eliminate the exhaust back pressure sensor. The EBP was a very problematic sensor on the 6.0 causing huge drivability issues. The engine running software had to completely rewritten to use other existing sensors to do the job of the EBP. Along with the elimination of this sensor came a new torque management profile that virtually eliminated the push you into the seat mid range acceleration. Mostly all this was done to reduce major warranty claims. Yeah right.

No notification for me yet. I will be very surprised if I do not receive one since we have to have cali emissions in this state. We do not however have to do any type of smog check for a truck under 10k #'s, for the time being.

I just got the Notice and Called my dealer. ALL THEY DO IS DIESELS. They are excellent guys in there. Everyone is CORRECT, if your trying to license the truck in CA you MUST have the recall done or you cannot register your truck. They said they had done many of them and nobody reported any loss of performance as a result. Also, its not a smog check even though thats what it says... Its an INSPECTION only. They look and make sure you have all of your emissions equipment installed and it is not tampered with. My dealer is also an authorized inspection station as well. All they do for the smog part is blip your accelerator and check for excessive smoke.
