Buying a 3rd gen.
Buying a 3rd gen.
Im real fimiliar with 2nd gens, but I know nothing about third gens.
They dont have the same crappy fuel system, and injection pump,... right? What are there downfalls.
Im looking for a 4x4, cc, 6sp. Im going to look at one, tomorrow.

3rd gens do not seem to have the issues with 24valves. The common rail fuel system has been pretty reliable. One thing to watch for is u-joints. The 03 I had went through the two rear ones in 42k. Also, I have heard on injector issues on early models, but I never had any problems. I can't wait until I can afford to get back into one. Good luck in your search, I will say a 6speed quad cab long bed 4x4 can be a little hard to find sometimes. A short bed will be easier.
You should do OK with $25k and might even find one with some of the 7/70 powertrain left on it. I paid 27.5k when mine was 37 months old and only had 25k miles. My early 03 didn't have any of the inherent problems but had some neglect and abuse. It got a trans overhaul for $100 deductable. I'm still very happy with it - it's WAY more truck than my 97 3/4T 5spd was. Craig
I was thinking about getting this one, but it sold this morning. Only four days on the market.
