I quess I should of called the local Cummins shop before ordering from Genos. I did save $10 by not going to the dealers even after shipping costs.

 

Now I'm confused... I bought a 2004 3500 Ram with the HO CTD which has the Coldstart Feature. The owners manual mentions something about engines equiped with block heaters ( where to find the Plug). My equipment list does not mention a block heater. But this list suggests that Cummins put the heater in All the engines, Dodge just doesnt hook it up, unless you order the option, which IS (just)the AC cord? How dumb is that?


There are also interspersed messages about radiator hose heaters and other freeze plug heaters. My Chevy 6.2 had a freeze plug heater , which blew out in about 10 years - the replacement, at Napa, was less than the price of the cords mentioned here.

I would think having the block heater and using it would reduce the run time to get the cab heat up sooner etc. So what is the Cummins and/or Dodge part numbers on the cord option. I am probably closer to a Cummins shop than a Dodge dealer here in Hilliard OH.

 

GO TO A TRUCK PARTS SHOP!! $16.50 !!!!!!!!! for a heater cord!

 

Haven't had a hard start problem in the cold. But I did just recently start to plug her in. Timer turns her on for about 3hours before I leave for work in the morning. I always feel the valve cover and it's toasty warm so that heater is doing a good job of warming the entire block. I don't think any other contraption is neccesary. It's in the teens and twenties every morning lately and all is good... Temp on guage shows 140+ at initial startup and gets to temp much sooner this way.

 

and yes once again...DC...offers "block heater" for $10 BUCKS as a option!!!!!! WOW!!!! and to think that DC installs the so called "block heater" and forgets to attach the freaking cord..LOL

 

What makes to corded block heater better than the one that comes on when I turn the key to start??

 

What comes on when you wait to start is a grid heater that warms your intake air making for an easier start. Block heater keeps the whole engine warm so after you start, you'll get to temp quicker.

 

The sad part is that the cord is a $10 option from Dodge but the idiots that order the trucks for the dealers do not check the block.

$10 !! I mean is it gonna kill ya on a $40,000+ truck if you "don't" want it?

OK, lemme see if I got this right. The "Block heater" is installed on all the engines, but unless you "Option" for a block heater, you don't get the cord?

My new '06 came with the cord, the equipment list on the window sticker shows it as a $10 item. The dealer,however sell it at $45; $65 installed. Kinda like having to buy rear fender liners. I think it's Daimler doing the nickel dimeing. Personally I would love to see Chrysler get back on it's own feet.

I just checked the price on this block heater cord. When I purchased this last Sept it was $17.20 plus shipping. As of today $54.77. Go figure. Find a cummins dealer.

 

i just now check it and it is saying 58.89+ shipping and tax. were does it pug in on the truck? i don't really need it in texas but i go up north about once a year.
