Block heater cord

I've searched the forums but I can't find the NAPA part # for the block heater cord. I don't wanna buy from the *********** and don't have a Cummins store close.

TIA.

Ordered this....paid like $7.95 shipping, but had it in a few days. Removed hose connecting air filter box to turbo, unscrewed black cap off of heater connection, plugged new cord in and ran it down to frame. Found pre-existing holes to push 3 plastic tabs into to run the cord to the front of the truck. Works great. Oh, and reattached plastic hose connecting air filter box to turbo. I really can't believe they would make this an option. It got really cold here a week or two ago....when I started my '05 up, it rattled and smoked for a good bit. Plugging it in doesn't give me instant heat, but it does fire up right away and very little if any smoke.

You should be able to get one from a Freightliner Dealer if you have one of those nearby, too.

I like the cord already hanging under my hood but I was kinda dissapointed in it when I plugged it in last weekend for the first time. I didn't notice any difference and was wondering if it actually was helping or not. then I went to use the same cord to run my trebble light while working on my trailer outside and found out that the outlet I had the extention cord didn't work. so I can understand why I didn't notice much difference when plugged it. That day the temps went up to 40 deg. so I haven't plugged it in since.
I know A long story but I thaught I would share so someone else checkes the cord before relying on it. I know I will from now on!!

Went to NAPA last week to get my cord, and stupid me didn't bring the part number with me that I'd found right here on DTR. Sure enough the guy behind counter had no idea what I was talking about, said he only had cords for aftermarket block heaters. Got part number today and called NAPA with it...of course the guys says yep, I've got one right here, come and get it . Paid $22.38 which is not as good a deal as some others on here have got, but still a heck of a lot better than Mopar's price!! Can't wait to install it.

Underwood, I have one of those extension cords in which the female end glows when it has power. I thought it was stupid at first, but I've come to appreciate it.

By the way guys, when I install this thing does it go a certain way? It's gonna be real hard to see into that small hole that I can't get eye level with.

candnd,

The block heater itself is still standard equipment, and your truck should have one. The electrical cord that connects to the block heater is the part that became an option....go figure. Bad business on Chrysler's part!!

All the posts in this thread are referring to just the electrical cord part of the block heater. If you do a search, you'll find a whole bunch of different threads on this subject, and some good information. Whatever you do, don't buy the part from a dealer, you'll pay way too much there. Search for all the old threads on this subject and you'll be well informed.

It plugs in real easy. Then you just screw the cap to tighten.
Did mine about 3 weeks ago. Just don't be dumb like me and let your truck cool down first. When you are all done and you plug in power source.
You should be able to hear it working.

Of you dont have a block heater or even the cord, dont waist your time or money getting it. I just purchased a circulating coolant heater for $80. It turns on until my coolant temp gets to 120 then turns off until it gets to 100 so 100-120 is what its called. If anyone is interested I will get the part # and so forth. But its a better deal, instead of just heating your block in one area it heats the whole engine. Also with the factory block heaters you cannot leave pluged in all night, you have to buy a timer ($10-$25) and have it turn on about 2-3hrs before you start the truck. If you leave those pluged in all night you will burn elements out. Here is the comparison $80 circulating coolant heater or $15 cord +$20 timer (and if you got the cord from the dealer +$50) I think spending the extra cash for a better system is well worth it. And a added plus, it plugs into your heater line so you get instant cabin heat, instead of having to wait.
