i have been a big fan of optima batteries in the past but napa batteries are now east penn or deka, a VERY good conventional battery. These batteries also have a manifold type vent with a hose nipple on the end so a vent hose can be attached so battery gases can be vented away to a better area so you will have 0 cable and end corrosion just like the much more expensive sealed agm batteries. these batteries are also available thru oreilly's and car quest. Also if it concerns you the east penn battery is U.S. manufactured.

AC delcos here, was that best bang for my buck. Started at -25C not plugged in with multiple glow plug cycles.

I converted my old 2001(dads truck now) over to grp 31s(just used some off brand cheapies) and at -25c my mom got it started when she left her Jeep's lights on. And that thing REALLY doesn't like cold weather starting!

I replaced my factory batts 2 days ago. They were starting to spinn the starter a little slow. had them checked at Firestone and they were at 25% or less. Got two new Interstate MTP 65's for 99 each. Factory is 750 CCA, these are 850 CCAmps and there is a noticeable difference in the way it starts. My HP and MPG went up also,LOL.

After having to charge my original OEM batteries a few times throughout December to get truck to start I finally sprung for the Sears Diehard P2s. $438.48 total (8.125% sales tax plus $6 State environmental fee). 4 year full replacement warranty, prorated up to 100 months total after that.

I changed them my self in the Sears parking lot and gave Sears the old OEMs. Truck now turns over scary fast! I almost bought the Group 31 marine version, but was concerned about the additional 2 inches in height. So far, seems the Group 31s would have been overkill... time will tell.

Die Hard Platinum, cost more, but you'll never have to worry about it again.

I had wallmart batteries for three years, no leakage at all. Just before the 3 year free replacement they gave out, got two new ones for free. If I get three years out of these I'll be a happy camper.

Hi,

I've had my 04.5 since June and now that it's colder and darker, I see my headlights dim a bit as the grid heater cycles. Starts up easily but I've been using a block heater. I've never had to crank more than two seconds. Is this normal - for the lights to dim and brighten ... or is my battery sort of keeling?

Reading this thread, however, startled me as to the price of batteries. $400+ bucks for the "good ones"? I'm thinking - what the heck - and did a battery finder at Walmart.com and they quote $115 - so about $200 a pair (at costco where I'd go).

But these Group 31 batteries out on the web are expensive - newegg has optima red tops for $250 so it got me thinking.

For regular boytoy use, Group 31 batteries are overkill, right?

Check out this $3000 Group 31 battery!

Yes, the lights dimming when the grid heater comes on is normal, even with new batteries.

My current batteries are from Costco. While not the best, they were also not that expensive. I've been happy with them so far (2+ years).
