Best oil for short mile trips

My 03 has about 80K on it now and I only put about 7500 on it a year. I work 5 miles from home so I have a jeep for that but I do use the truck when it rains. Unless I am on a vacation, my miles are short ones. Does it matter what oil I use? What would be the best for short runs without giving up protection for long TT pulling trips?

I run ~7500miles per year, and run Valvoline Prem Blue with no issues. Been doing that for the last 2 years. I also run Fleetguard LF16035 oil filter.

Most of the time the truck never reaches opperating temp. I herd this is not good for oil and wear, so the concern.

I'd use a cheap oil and change it seasonally. Every three months that is. That way you drain all the water and pollutants out.

I run pretty low miles also, so I use a reasonably priced dino oil (usually Premium Blue).

Doing only short trips can build up a surprising amount of water and moisture in an engine, so I think its a good idea to get the coolant and oil up to operating temp for at least half an hour every couple of weeks.

To get the engine up to operating temp try using a Winter Front - it lets you open & close flaps to control air flow thru the radiator, so it'll warm up faster.

It's really meant for winter weather, but I put mine on when it starts to get cool in the fall and don't take it off until summer - I use my truck for back and forth to work most of the time, and for towing a camper trailer in the summer.

Once the weather is hot take the Winter Front off - or anytime you're towing or going on a long trip. It only takes a few minutes to R&R.

That may help you get your engine up to operating temp and avoid some of your worries.
