bent and broked pushrod

I have an 07 5.9,started popping back through intake.I found the #6 exhaust rocker arm plastic retainer on the bridge cup broke/ the ball on the bottom of pushrod gone. I ordered a rocker/pushrod/tappet. when pulling the rest of the rockers/pushrods I found the #6 intake pushrod is also very bent. The valves seem to be up/closed I'm going to compare there height to the other valves and check the tappet for damage, trying to decide if I need to pull the head. Has anyone else had this problem ? Tom

I would rotate the engine by hand and see if you have anything going on. I've read about the rockers "galling" up.....maybe that causes the bend. The plastic piece being broken may have caused the pushrod to bang around and break that one.

Thanks for the tip DragonSlayer, all the rocker shafts had some gaulding on them. I had to tap the #6 intake shaft out of the arm. I cleaned & polished them all. I inspected the tappets, put it back together, sound good. Thanks again Tom

If you have galling, you have an oiling problem. Don't go any further until you resolve the poor oiling or the problem will simply re-occur forever. You probably have an internal leak that is bleeding off the pressure and flow.

I was blaming the failure and galling on the made in india parts. Do the Cummins engines have oiling problems? My truck only has 59k on it,40+ psi oil pressure(factory gauge) no other problems.

Generally Cummins motors do not have oiling problems, but yours does. You say you have 40 psi oil pressure, well, just where is that measured?. The fact that galling is present states you have an oiling problem. The correct way to trouble shoot the fault is to inject oil into the oil gallery as close to the oil pump as possible at 40 psi with an electric pump and watch to see where the flow is being lost.
