Belt squeak.

My belt has always chirped when I shut the truck off. It's not damaging anything, its just annoying. I sprayed belt conditioner on it and it still won't quit. Anybody else ever experience this?

There is a TSB for this, Dodge replaces the underdrive pully. Belt chirp at shut down. (TSB 09-004-06) I do not know if they will do it if you are over 36k.

Here is the TSB. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/09-004-06.htm But im not having it done. I like to hear it. I consider it normal for a Cummins to "chirp" at shutdown. It just tells you how much torque and compression that mighty Cummins engine has......when the engine stops suddenly and the other accessories continue to try to keep moving for a split second, and the engine says "nope, we are done until I decide to spin over again".

I agree with that a little, but that seems to me like the belt is being dragged over the pullys that have already stopped moving, thus causing unnessessary wear on the belt. I would hate to have my belt thrown through my radiator just because I wanted to hear the chirp. I'm not bashing you, TexasCTD, not even suggesting anything. I don't even know if I'm right about that. Better safe than sorry for me...

No problem Mad Hat. You do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Mine has been fine for almost 60,000 miles on the original belt. I have been told that repeatedly and read here repeatedly that it is normal for that to happen. Just part of owning a diesel, or at least a Cummins Diesel.

And I'd sure rather put up with the chirp than to take my truck to a dealer for something as minor as that.
