Beginning year of factory installed engine braking?

I presently have a ’98 12 valve I need to replace. I need a truck (Dodge diesel) with engine/exhaust braking down to 10 mph. Will the later model Dodge diesels perform this feat? If so, in what year did they incorporate this feature?
Thank you.

06 was the first year you could get an optional exhaust brake installed on the truck from Dodge. 07.5 with the 6.7 was the first year the exhaust brake was actually installed into every truck from the factory. There two different designs I believe, but work pretty much the same. With an auto, 20 mph is about the lowest you can go and still achieve braking, and that's at the slowest end of the spectrum. With a manual I see no reason why you couldn't go slower, especially in first.

with the 2004/05 dodge and our exhuast brake with the torque lock installed you can adjust the controler to drop out of lock up down to 18 mph however being that slow and slower you will get some torque convertor shuttle. in 2006 and up the lock up is all controled by the engine ecm so the set speeds can not be changed.

It sounds like I must buy a truck, install an exhaust brake, (if older than 2007.5) Install a torque converter lock and hope the transmission is up to the task.
Now, do the newer trucks have exhaust gas recirculation. If so, what years? I cannot install an aftermarket exhaust brake on an EGR engine in California as diesels are now inspected for propery operating smog devices. That is why I must sell my '98.
The engine braking afforded by gasoline engines is sounding better and better.

The 6.7's (7.5 and above) have both an EGR system and a VGT turbo that acts as an exhaust brake. the system is California approved..
