We do marine Optimas when the stockers die off... you can stuff the next larger group size under the hood, and they are pretty resilient to abuse. Besides, the extra terminals are convenient and the cool blue color is soothing to the eye.

http://www.odysseyfactory.com/ is the actual manufacturer of the batteries.

I just put a small one in the jeep.

Thinking the 1500 is the drop in replacement for the CTD.

I wont go back to optima

What makes an Odyssey the "best"?
Someone who is willing to pay more for a product does not necessarily mean that that product is better than the next brand.
It only means that someone was willing to spend more when they might have been able to spend less.
I can understand how believing that "I got the best of something" might make your stomach heel better when your gut tells you that you might have just got screwed.
What I don't understand is how someone can claim that this product is so much better than the next brand.?
Not only with batteries, but everything else.
Tires, clutches, gages, shocks, bars, bells, whistles...

It's easy to trash someones product when you have no proof.
Without that proof, Its even easier to claim that your thing is better than all the rest.

So...is Odyssey really the best?
Then prove it...

Do you mean why are Odyssey better then a standard off the shelf lead acid battery? Thats a no brainer.

extreme vibration resistant
higher out put current
long life

If you mean better then a standard off the shelf Optima battery? Then its just Higher output current. I use to be happy with the optima due to its rugged contruction but they seem to be slipping in reliability the last few years.

The biggest advantage to optima/odyssey is the vibration resistance. I can kill a standard battery in one year.

But will an Odyssey outlast an Optima in equal temp, vibration and cycling demands?
I've had an Optima last 6 years in my Jeep.
I've never had any other brand or type of battery last that long.
The Odyssey looks as if it only takes up 1/2 the space required for mounting.
That would leave open space for mounting something else.
The Optimas I've had put an end to corrosion at the cable ends.
For me, this was a huge factor in deciding where my money would be spent.
Would an Odyssey be the same as far as low or no maintenance?

To me, the most important feature in the battery I choose is that it doesn't barf out acid everywhere, getting sweaty and destroying the terminals, hold-downs, and the painted area under it. I find the Mopar replacement batteries to be horrible for this. I look for a battery with a smooth top with no removeable caps, like a Delco. Those types seem to keep the acid inside where it belongs.

I have been running dual Odyssey's in my rock-crawler for over five years and I have never had a problem. Even when I still had the stock 60-amp alternator and I would be on a night run with my 100-watt headlights and the four 55 watt rock-lights on running at low speed, 1500 RPM’s or less for a few hours. A couple of time I had to pull a cable and winch some one or myself out with my 12,500 T-Max winch and all the lights on. There are also times when I am in a very precarious place that I use only the starter motors to pull through it. They do not spill acid or corrode because they are a dry cell battery. When the batteries on my CDT or H-D go, they will be replaced with Odyssey's. They are the only batteries that the Secret Service uses in their vehicles. I am sold on them. I learned about them from a friend that has a small business called Kodiak Industries http://kodiakinc.com/index.html sitting around a campfire. He is a very knowledgeable person on all of the products that he sells.

I have Odessy batteries in my class 8 tractor, with a 2000 watt inverter, runs it all for the night. An almost dead Odessy will fire the engine up faster than a full charged stock battery. These are group 31 and give 2000 ca for 5 seconds. I have seen no other battery double the cranking amps for the first few seconds. They were expensive but I would go for them any time a battery was needed.

I might add one thing about AGM batteries, watch what you charge them with, don't go over 15 volts charge. I have a couple of battery chargers that run 15.5 or so on the charge rate, they will tear up the AGM batteries.

Pete, I also ran Optima's ,6 years in my rockcrawler before they went. When I was researching for new batteries, I ran across many complaints about the new Optima's, meaning they are not the same reliable battery we bought 6 years ago. The onlycomplaints on Odyssey was the terminals on the earlier models. I also hear Deka is good.

Odyssey is what the military runs. they are AGM as are the Optima. The Deka is a wet cell. The Odyssey and thed Optima should be about the same size per amp, much smaller than the wet cell batteries.
