Battery charge question
Need new batteries and am thinking about installing AGM batteries. The reason I am considering AGM batteries is that I have an inverter in the truck that frequently nearly runs the lead acid batteries flat and that of course shortens their life. The AGM batteries can apparently tolerate more frequent deep cycling than lead acid batteries. Is there a problem with charging AGM batteries in these trucks? Am asking the question because I have a cabin in the woods that is totally off grid and notice on the charge controller that there is a separate setting for charging AGM batteries.

Definitely a possibility, but in my part of the world they are very expensive. Switching to AGM batteries in this particular case is relatively inexpensive because my present batteries are still under warranty and the company (Autozone) will refund the full cost of the batteries and I only need to pay the difference.
My experience with AGM is in boats. They are a fantastic battery. They last a long time and have very little self discharge compared to a flooded battery. They also typically support a large current discharge without issue. I am running them on standard alternators without issue
having said that, the one thing they don’t tolerate as well as a lead acid battery is coming back from complete discharge. If you kill them all the way, they are done.
They can be had in a higher amp hour per unit size though so you may be able to upgrade your amp hours.
I am partial to the Marathons. They make a hell of a battery

Went with the AGM's from Autozone. Use the same batteries in my off grid cabin. So far zero problems in the truck or cabin and happy with the 6 AGM's I bought

I bought the 65-AGM. Wanted to use the Optima yellow tops for my off grid solar system, but they were ridiculously expensive, so ended up using the same AGM batteries that I am using in my truck. So far truck and off grid are working just fine.
