Baldwin Filters STINK!

First of all I will have pictures very soon. I use Schaeffers diesel additive in every tank. I change my Filters regularly(Baldwin PF7777). I fill up at a Pacific Pride, and I have GDP 2 Micron but thats not the cause of my gripe........ Just had to replace 4 injectors almost 5 all due to RUST. Yes, I couldn't believe it. RUST. They were bad. Now I may be at fault for not driving my truck alot but these stinkin Baldwin filters let me down. If your using them I would consider going back to Fleetguard. No water in fuel light came on, probably because the water was going right through the filter. Regardless of were I fill up I was told by Baldwin that these filters seperated the water. I guess not! Soon I will be talking to the local Baldwin rep and have proof. All I can say is the buck stop with filtration.

I bet the same thing would have happened with a fleetguard too....you should be mad that the "water in fuel light" did not come on.
if there was water in the fuel why didn't the light come on???????

do you have pics of this rust???
and the filter???
was the filter damaged??
sorry for your bad luck
I am running Baldwin 7977 and now you got me wondering????
why no water light??
how old was the filter??

I change my filters every 6-8k. I fill up at 2 different Pacific Prides. I've already talked to one of them and they guarantee their fuel is dry and can prove it. I should have pics tomorrow or Thurs. My truck can sit for a week at a time. The water in fuel didn't come on because its passing through

I have a hard time with this one! I've been running Baldwins for years now without any problems. There are millions of proven miles with Baldwins on over the road trucks, buses, farm equipment, etc... with no issues. Something else is afoot.

It's not the filters. Pull the high pressure injector lines and check for corrosion inside.

I'm with you also, I'm having a had time believing the filter wasn't damaged or installed wrong. I drain my water filter at lest once a month or more. I never wait for the water light to come on. Do you?

I've never seen any filter rust on the inside, even a water filter. I have seen the top lip rust on the outside, but if it's changed often enough it's not a problem. I have 2 Cat filters on my truck the fuel/water separator is steel and the 2 micron filter has an aluminum top plate and internal structure is plastic, so rust isn't an issue.

WHAT?.......................The injectors were rusty on the inside, not the tips but inside the body. Not the filter. Do you guys not see that this was a problem that developed over time. I've used Baldwin in all my trucks since new, but these 3rd gens are so touchy especially the injectors. I replaced my fuel filter last night with fleetguard fs19800. The Baldwin I took out, PF7777, was just slightly turning gray. Are kidding me installed wrong! a monkey could replace one of these things.

I would send the filter to the Baldwin Engineers and let them check it out. They will be able to tell if they have an issue. So jumping on the board and bashing them before you have the facts is uncalled for. By the way, the new filter is PF7977. Just like Fleetguard they updated their filter to a lesser micron rating but are better by 2 micron. If the truck sits alot you need to drain every once in a while. Have you done the fuel tank rollover valve mod? I assume you have since you have a GDP.

You need to check your fuel tank for water. Have you been draining the separator regularly and what have the results been? No water at all?

It doesn't take long to ruin the injectors. A guy around here got some bad fuel (7% water), he would never say but we think he drained some fuel out of an old piece of heavy equipment that sat for a while. When he shut his truck off all the water naturally settled to the bottom of the tank. Just in one or 2 tank's of this fuel he managed to ruin all 6 of his injectors and the connector tubes had rust in them. The injectors were sent off and could not be repaired. Now a fuel water separator filter isn't going to be able to remove 100% of the water from the fuel (based on design) especially at high amounts.

Here is a pic of a Cat fuel/water separator that I disected (had about 8k miles on it). I have a feeling that it's the same as the Baldwin your using. (I wouldn't rule out that Baldwin makes them both) IMO I can't see how the filter could be the cause of your problems. I'd bet it was just bad fuel. Best thing we ever did was throw our Pacific Pride cards away. (not because of fuel problems, but billing problems)

It's not the filter, it's your fuel. I've been a tech for years, and have seen all types of rust ,in all types of vehicles, with all types of filters. And it's amazing how some people just keep dropping injectors, and some folks never do, again, I think it's their fuel.
