Bad injectors? Long cranking and now NO START.
 
my new 2003 ram 3500 with 212K mi, has been cranking longer to start than normal. Now that the temp is in the 20-30, it will not start. If I plug it in for an hour and put charger on, it will fire up and lope/chug some til warmed up. then you can restart it, with longer than normal cranking. Things r pointing toward bad injector. Everyone is saying that too.
Any other ideas? Help? Etc.

They aren't flooding your engine with diesel so they're somewhat ok. Likely you got at least two of them that ohm out past specs (solenoid is shorting out causing the slight misfire).

Another thing is when i have key on, there is a clicking sound, that seems to come from under valve cover. ????

Clicking sound might be your fuel pump if it is still mounted on the filter canister.

Sounds like injectors to me. Went through the same thing you are describing now, twice. Last time, I just replaced them all.

No. Fuel pump is in tank. Could it be injector solenoid?
Or an OFV or check valve?

Could a 0483 code prevent it from running?

Same things was happening to me. Cooler weather cause long cranking times and had to plug in. Replaced FCA, heater grid, and retorqued injectors and tubes. This all took place over about 2 years. It finally wouldn't start at all and I broke down and replaced injectors and tubes. Now it bust right off like new, even in cold weather.

The members that have replied to you are giving you good advice.

I wanted to tell you that I have a 2006 Dodge CTD CR with 118,000 miles on it. I live in eastern N.C. and we don't get alot of real cold weather here.
This summer, my truck started the long crank times along with occasional rough running. I KNEW it was most likely the dang injectors so I decided to have them checked out. As it turned out, injectors #4 and #6 were bad and I decided to replace them all. Both injectors had low pressure and one needed a solenoid. Once I got the new injectors in the truck ran like new again!:)

If you have gotten 212K out of your injectors you have done good! IMHO, these CR injectors are junk! They are darn expensive to replace too.

That code shows it's the fan clutch. It's either bad or the wiring is chewed up. I guess while I'm on it, the harness connection is right near the harmonic balancer (be a large black square plug). If the wires are ok, the clutch is bad. Yes the fan is turning, but the clutch isn't relaying it's speed to the ECM.

On the injectors, your looking at $2500 (new injectors w/ 50 HP nozzles) plus another $300ish for 6 new connecting tubes. You MIGHT be able to get them from Cummins a lot cheaper than the dealer. Or you might be able to get remand injectors from this site for half what new ones will run.

I've found reman for 332$ ea and and injector tubes for 28$ ea in town, in stock.

Same thing was happening to me. I just pulled out all my injectors tonight. Im getting them tested locally and getting f1 flux 1 nozzles :)

I disconnected the fuel line from pressure limiting valve. Dried it out, ran the truck at idle for about 5 seconds and the well in the valve was full of fuel. That means the valve is letting fuel by. My understanding is that the valve only opens when greater than 26k psi. I don't think it reaches that level at idle. So does that mean mine is bad, and fuel is seeping by? I'm thinking about replacing it. And having the injectors bench tested at local Bosch shop.

ok, Ill start there and replace it, but I still think I have a bad injector, because after start up, it has a slight mis/lope until it warms up just a little.
Prob only replace the injectors that r bad.
