i'm, back to having issues that i was told originally by the dealer were normal. here is a brief description. from a dead stop if you don't really goose it and try to take off around about 1500 -1700 rpm it has a sluggish go and stop motion like it doesn't want to shift through. if you are coasting up to a light and get down to around 10-15 mph then try to go it will down shift go then down shift again then up shift go then up shift, or it will down, up, down, up all right in a row. if the gear selecto is in second and you are at a stop then try to go it will surge like it catches releases catches and it keeps doing that until you give it the onion. dealer over a year ago said it was normal then they blamed the 35" tires. now that it has gotten worse i went to a different dealer and they started with the tire story. so i put stock tires and rims on it and guess what same thing. well they put it on the lift with it in gear and the tranny is bouncing up and down right where the rear drive shaft comes out and it is making a nasty growling sound. now they are blaming the huge 4.5" lift kit which is only 2" in the rear. i told them it did this before the skyscraping lift. service tech then said maybe drive shaft is out of balance. that could be but i don't think that would cause the slipping. if anybody has any thought please let me know. and sorry for rambling but you guys are the only ones that will listen or well at least i can't see you not listening
My truck does the stop and go motion shifting from 2nd to 3rd if i'm not close to half throttle or more but it's doe it since day one....as for the rest of your post I haven't noticed it but i'll be looking for it now. lets us know if they resolve the issue or just bust your chops and blow you off. Good Luck

yea i can't wait to see what the say now. i got two things that may help me. i found a service paper i had saved from when i took it in when i first bought the truck and was having problems with the tranny and the truck was completely stock with them stating on the paper that condition was normal. then as luck would have it i stopped at the off road shop to fill them in on the problems and the guy that owns the joint is real good friends with the owner of the chrysler dealer. as luck would have it the guy from the dealer owes my buddy a favor so he called him up and the owner at the dealer met me at the service dept. this morning when i dropped it off. he told the techs to take care of the situation and not worry about placing a blame. if it is something i did idon't mind taking care of the problem and facing the cost. but since it has done it since new and the truck is babied to the point it drives other people crazy so i know that it is a defect that came on the truck. it is my fault though for allowing them to tell me in the first place that it was normal and then going ahead with the lift and only when i noticed getting worse did i really start making a big deal about it.
Update: Dealer just called and said they are replacing the entire rear differential b/c they found that the gears were worn. Keep in mind that this truck has 16 thousand miles and has pulled a 2500 pound boat. I know that this strentuous work, but isn't this a little pre-mature? How do they figure that the worn ring and pinion have anything to do with the way the transmission is shifting and slipping.

Must be an '05 thing, as mine does the same EXACT thing. It drives me crazy sometimes. There are what, three or four '05 models in this thread describing the same exact thing.
I have an 06, it will hunt at low speeds but once your above 60 km it stops, but i do drive around town with the over drive locked out, found that this gives me a little better intown mpg also.
The "tranny hunting" (
) issue has been a recurring one for years; sometimes the OD or TC solenoids don't have a proper ground, and sometimes the governor pressure solenoid is shot... and frankly, I think the factory ECM shift protocols leave a lot to be desired!

There is no way to even remotely diagnose this online, but that said there has been a low mph "sweet spot" for trans gear hunting ever since they switched from the RH (hydraulic) to the RE (electronic) trans. Most of the time a TV cable adjust, or as the other poster mentioned, simply lock out the OD in town will make the problem go away. Larger tire can affect the shift schedule too.
When they "ran your truck on the lift" I'm assuming the suspension was supported, not hanging. You will also get some driveline "swing" as there is not a load on the rear wheels to keep the drive line "taught". Unless they were running it an a dyno, it was time wasted.
