Air Filter
Air Filter
I know the description of this section says no High Performance question please do no think this is one of them. I installed a K&N Air Filter on my truck says I need to go back to the stock because the K&N filter is oiled and lets to much junk in. Anyone have a proposal of what to use to replace it with. Is there another Aftermarket one that will work.

I run the Amsoil EAA189 dry cleanable filter. I drive in dusty conditions and have over 40k miles on this filter and have not had ANY post filter dust in the intake tube. (I clean it every oil change)
That's my 1.5 cents

Run the stock paper element, as said earlier it can't be beat for it's filtration capabilities compared to aftermarket options. Plus, unless your making over 500 hp, aftermarket intakes are a waste of money.
I know everyone is saying run the stock one. I can't I pitched the components as i thought the K&N was the best thing going. I am just looking for another aftermarket one that will work for my situation.
you need to go back to stock. buy another one from this site from some one who has switched his out. most of the k&n i have seen lets hot under hood air in. if you want to do anything to the stock box go with a psm kit. you just restored several hundred thousand miles of life to your engine by dumping the k&n

Dodge just came out with a high flow filter, uses same OEM box, filter element is like twice as thick. $30 something, I havn't installed it yet, will try it on drive to Florida 2nd week of November, will post how it does.

Cut a 4" hole in the bottom of the stock airbox and add a PVC elbow. I did this after reading some others on the board posted about doing this. Unless you are pushing big power numbers, this will allow more than enough air. I have used an Amsoil drop in and now a NAPA replacement and have no complaints. The only thing to watch out for on the drop in replacements is the rubber seal wearing / getting compressed over time. After a year or so, the seal on my Amsoil was compressing to much for my liking.
I agree with a turbo charger all the hype about air filters flowing is kind of moot. If the air vacuum gauge isn't in the red you're probably sucking enough air. Without a turbo it's a different story.
