I recently installed the AFE Stage II but i could not get the ring out b/c my roomate took his small set of screwdrivers home with him and the ones i had were too big to get under the retainer to pop it out. Sooo i was just wondering if removing the ring would make the turbo much louder than the AFE Stage II does by its self or not. Thanks, Jason

 

I have not heard one with the ring still in but when I installed my AFE Stage II/ProGuard 7 I had my ring out and it drove me crazy. It is now on my brothers truck because I got tired of the loud whistle.

I have an 03 CTD 3500 that I put the AFE Pro Guard 7 on just over a year ago. Just last week I removed the silencer ring on it. Now I have a nice whistle to it but not overly loud by any means. If I have the radio on I can barely notice it. But it sounds a lot better than it did. From what I read on here, removing the baffles in the intake tube makes quite a difference as well. Haven't done that yet but I am hoping to soon.

 

yea i know removing the baffles makes most of the diff..thats why i was wondering since mine are gone now (AFE Stage II) is it worth the pain taking the ring out or it as loud as she is going to get...

 

For the ten minutes it will take you to get the silencer ring off, I would say it is worth a try. Not a pain at all, very easy! Let us know if you do it.
