Accelerate with Cruise Control on
Accelerate with Cruise Control on
I learned interesting last weekend you all may already be aware of. I was running down the freeway at 65mph with the cruise control on, and minding my own business when I came upon a hill. Having come from the world of gassers, I just pushed a little further on the throttle in an attempt to speed up for the hill but, nothing happened, at least until I was 1/3rd of the way down. Has anybody else experianced this?
Learned something new there. First, there was no need to get the RPM's up for the hill, it just blasted up like it was a speed bump. Second, I gotta get used to this fly by wire stuff.

Yes, that is normal--you have to get on the accel pretty good to get a response. I am now used to kicking the cruise off with the switch, accelerating around another rig, then backing off the accel and hitting the resume button. I DO like that cruise off button--on all my other rigs I either had to hit the brake or turn cruise off then back on.
This is one (of many) little pet peeves about my truck. On my previous vehicles, I would always gently modulate the accelerator on rolling hills to save fuel. With the drive by wire setup this is hard to do smoothly due to all the dead travel when the cruise is on.
To avoid the frustration I usually just turn of the cruise in hilly terrain, as my right foot can do a much better job in these conditions.
