? about rings

? about rings

should the bevel on the second ring face up or down? the book [chiltons] i have says it should be up,but i checked the only piston i had with rings still on it and it was down. please help me out

It depends on the ring type. The ring set should come with an instruction sheet. If not, check the manufacturers web site, or give their tech line a call.

they are cummins ringset.they did not come with any instruction sheet. i will check thier site.

The bevel of the intermediate ring goes up. Think of it this way the bevel is shaped so that the downward force of the compression forces the ring against the cylinder wall
