About the rear end....

Does the diff. cover have a gasket behind it, reuseable, or is it silicon? Same question for the front. The service manual says a total of 5.8 L of fluid, but what is the real world amount needed for both ends? Then torque to 30 ft. lbs.? Sorry for all the questions, it the first for this truck.

Yes, you have a reusable gaske if the person before you did not discard it!

Thanx, and I love your town. Was there for a few days on my way to Avery Island where they make that "Necter of the God's" Tabasco sauce. Enjoyed my stay and the friendly folks.

Lots of posts about the 30 foot lbs being too much and snapping bolts off in the housing.Lots state just tightened by hand until it feels ok.

I also thought that was a little excessive. My personal theory is snug-tght and if you see a little leaking in a couple of days, tighten a little more. Thanx for the reassurance.

I torqued mine to 25 ft-lbs with no issues. Also, cleaned the loctite off the bolts and installed loctite when going back. No need to use RTV because the bolt holes don't go into the housing. If you have a wire wheel table grinder it's a piece of cake to do.
