Re:6 speed Shifter ****
Bradley you are right - its not the entire **** thats turning - its just the indicator. Carefully pry it off with a small screwdriver, apply a bit of rtv and put it back in. This will solve your **** problems.

Re:6 speed Shifter ****
In my rig, the entire rod loosened. I just pulled up the console and gave it a good tightening. I have heard of other people who have had just the indicator part of the **** move too. Mine hasn't budged....go figure ;D

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

TexasTodd, just for fun do a search and find the original thread on this subject. You may get a kick out of some of the answers. Seem to remember that it is quite long.

Pull it out, hack some notches in it, stick it back in and it will stay put. Then if for some reason you decide to remove it, it will come out. I did mine while I was waiting at a drive thru.

Re:6 speed Shifter ****
mine is 180 off with only 3800 miles.
i took the boot off the other day to see what was turning. it's not the **** or the indicator, but the center part of the shaft. it's a two piece shaft that's rubber filled to cut down on virbration. it looks like the only way to fix it from spining is to pin it an inch or 2 above when it threads on the shifter coming out of the trans, but then you'll feel even more vibs at 70. mine has not turned anymore in the last 2000 miles so maybe it's turned all it can and the rubber is set. pulling the **** and straighting it sounds like a good idea after the rubber sets.
or you could glue a beer bottle cap to it, so you can't read the numbers.

Re:6 speed Shifter ****
pull out the insert and push in a beer top. Fits fine and will not rotate....you will have to guide in the flutes of the cap first....do not know who thought of that first. It works...pick a beer any beer.....mine has not rotated since.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
Re:6 speed Shifter ****
With almost 14,000 miles on my truck....mine still hasn't moved. Funny thing is....from the day I got it the diagram was angled so it was facing the driver's seat. Everyone I've ever seen before was straight up and down. :-

Your truck probably had the speedo rolled back. Or was written off.
