4x4 u joints

K the 4x4 u joints at the wheel have a huge amount of play in them.. And are squeeling when turning... I was wondering if you have to pull the upper and lower ball joints to take out the u joints and do you have to pull the axle. And how big of a job is this would also help. Thanks

you cant get knuckle off without first removing the axle shaft. im certain that the spindle must be pulled to allow removal of axle shafts.

Just had my drivers side front done. The normal way is to take out the axle, but try as the garage did they could not get it out, and they tried everything. If you use a puller there is a better than good chance you will pull the hub apart and that is a no no. I mentioned to them that i had read on here that it can be taken apart without removing the axle all that has to be done is disconnect the tie rod end and that will give you the needed movement to change it in the vehicle, worked like a charm, took them about 30 mins.
